Entry-ways and foyers are so fun to design because they’re the first impression of a home. Whether they’re grand or small there’s always a way to layer in character, while also keeping them functional. In this home, the goal was to lighten up the space and even though it’s a small room, we wanted to enhance the existing character and keep it functional for the family.  For example there’s an interesting little metal railing in the ceiling bump up, which was a rarely noticed detail before since there was no reason to look up. By installing this beautiful Morris pendant, (a favorite that we’ve been dying to use), there’s now something to catch your attention and look up.

The existing black slate floors are beautiful, but they made the room feel a bit dark so we installed some classic wainscoting and now there’s a nice contrast between the white paneling and the black floor.  We kept the existing antique marble topped table and added a new mirror from Serena & Lily which is a modern update on a classic bamboo mirror and ties nicely into the black slate floors.  We couldn’t resist adding some warmth and color with a great antique rug found on Etsy.

We painted the room Silver Drop by Behr, and the wainscoting is White Dove by Benjamin Moore which is a white that reads on the warmer side.

A closer look at that beautiful pendant and the ceiling detail.
Here’s a before shot. As you can see it wasn’t terrible, but with just a few updates we layered in character and enhanced the details.
