Wood is making a come-back. Okay, wood never really goes out of style of course, but in recent years we’ve seen a lot of painted cabinetry in kitchens and baths along with alternative furniture finishes like stone, metal, glass and acrylic. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll always love a good classic white kitchen, but this year we’ll be seeing more of this wood design trend, particularly in the form of cabinets, shelves, ceiling beams and accessories. Wood compliments and adds warmth to painted finishes and neutral interiors.

The use of wood on the open shelves and island adds warmth to this modern white kitchen. The little touches of black are a perfect way to add contrast.

Consider a wood island in the kitchen to warm up and add contrast to a kitchen with painted cabinets. Wood also pairs beautifully with stone counters.

Here’s more amazing contrasting black and white in this bathroom. The brass fixtures and wood console again, bring up the warmth factor.

Wood cabinetry also looks great with shiplap and concrete counters.

These natural wood shelves are doing a great job at breaking up the wall of marble.

I absolutely adore this kitchen from Kelly Nutt Design.  It’s a stunning example of mixed materials – with the warm touches of wood on the beams and vent hood to the leather bar stools and contrasting stone counters. True love.
